Meeting notes from August 8, 2004.
Upcoming local charity bike rides:
Tri County Hill Hopper - Sunday, March 15, 2005 - contact Amy Sharp
Junction 505 - May 1, 2005 (Regina Hokanson is SAG co-ordinator. Please
help!)
Lucky B Bison Ranch - early April? Cyclo-cross? Dirt ride on ranch? Ride
to the ranch?
Jean Marie proposed sending $100 to Adventure Cycling Association. It was
seconded and passed. The free magazine subscription will be sent to Robert
Rose's shop, Cycles, Etc on University Drive.
Robert Rose reported on the Pedestrian and Cycling Task Force for College
Main. Cycling advocate Preston Tyree attended and gave a presentation on
bike/pedestrian safety. Short term projects - stripe the north end of the
street and add (more) street lighting. Long term projects - get matching
funding, improve drainage and resurface the road through Texas Department of
Transportation. By naming the improvements a "special project", College
Main will be eligible for some (federal?) funding.
Willie Allen reported that there are 64 signed waivers for the time trial
series. The time trial series was initiated to earn money for the club -
currently there is a disparity between what new and current members pay for
the series. How should it be resolved? Free if a BVC member? College
students pay a reduced rate? Making it a club sanctioned event was put
forth, but that was countered with the fact that bylaws will need developed
to cover that and may limit participants to members only. Also, is the time
trial course OK with participants? Any other locations come to mind? Feed
ba! ck to Willie on BVC Chat.
Willie brought up the Tour de Dirt which was weather-challenged in 2004.
New course ideas? Old courses OK?
Willie wanted to know if lifetime BVC memberships were of interest to anyone
- $50? The average lifespan of a BVC membership is roughly 5 years.
Stephanie proposed that we have a table at Forward Fest 2005 in downtown
Bryan. More information to come.
