OK, so I'm as disappointed in Tyler Hamilton as everyone else, but this
is something not to be missed....
On July 16th, Stage 14 of the TdF will be broadcast to movie theaters
throughout the country courtesy of OLN. This is a mountain stage, and
let me tell you nothing quite compares to being there, but seeing Iban
Mayo looking like he's 30 feet tall and 135 pounds is pretty damn
impressive. The coverage isn't interrupted during the commercial
breaks either - the video feed continues, but there isn't any audio.
Some of the most interesting stuff in the stage occurred during the
commercial breaks last year. It was eerie to watch Tyler glide back
DOWN the caravan, without Phil and Paul to give us any clue as to what
he was doing. Shortly after that, we got to watch Iban Mayo defeatedly
wheel his bike to the side of the road and climb off, only to have two
or three of his team-mates gather around him and slowly, painfully,
encourage him to get back on the bike, which he did.
Details are at www.tylerhamiltonfoundation.org Nearest theatre is in
Houston. It's well worth the early morning drive.....starts at 6:30 or
7 am as I recall, with a continental breakfast included. I wonder if
they'll have any of the left over "GO TYLER" speedplay bumper
stickers....
