Jean Marie,
 
Just wanted to drop you an email to say thank you. My shop owner
recently promoted and ran a race here in downtown Rochester, NY.
He came to me about two weeks before the race and asked me to run the
wheel pit. Now, I have worked as a mechanic in shops all over the
country for about 14 years, but had never run a wheel pit. To tell you
the truth, I had only really been to mountain bike races. Not much of a
roadie myself. Anyway he wanted me to do this because the first year of
the race before we had opened the shop he let a shop from Buffalo run
the wheel pit and it ran pretty piss poor.
 
So he told the shop from Buffalo that he had a mechanic that had run
plenty of wheel pits and he did not need them. So what do I do? I use a
trusty search 
engine by the name of google and lo and behold your article is the first
one up. I print everything out and me and my wife sit down and make a
list of how we can run it for our crit, being that we don't have to
drive around made it a little easier. To make a longer story shorter
everything went off without a hitch, and we had several pros that came
to the race that said it was one of the best run wheel pits they had
seen outside of a European event. I took that as a fair bit of a
compliment, and already have notes written on how I can improve my pit
for next years event. Your description was excellent and I might have
floundered a bit without it. I just wanted to say thank for lending me
your knowledge and allowing me to add more legitimacy to an event that
already went extremely well. 
The president of USA cycling, and Marty Nothstein who came to our event
along with many other pros, have said they are hoping to take our crit
to nationals level. Anyway the race went awesome and the pros loved it.

I ran the pit and the USCF official that was stationed with us was also
impressed with the job we did. Did not tell him I hadn't done one. He
just assumed from all of our prep that we were old pros at it. Thanks
