Hi all,

This morning, Michael Mertes and I, went to TAMU's
Purchasing department to take a look at the bikes
there and see what possibilities were available for
the Katrina students. Thanks, Michael, for
volunteering the time and effort to do this.

A few items of note:
- In the hour we were there, we identified 6 bikes
(from only going through two racks out of a dozen or
so) that could be fixed up.
- Purchasing has graciously offered their warehouse
space for storage of bikes, as well as a space to
repair them and any tools they have that might be of
use. We just need to supply parts and manpower.
- Purhasing extend the offer to us to come in on a
Saturday/Sunday to access the bikes and do work on
them, so you don't have to volunteer during weekday
work hours if you want to help out.

I'd like to propose that a group meets next week
and/or weekend so we can keep moving forward with this
effort. !!! Please let me know if you're interested in
helping out and when you are available.

I would be happy to ask Aggieland Cycling/BCS Bicycles
for parts/service support, but before doing that, I
think I need a BVC Officer to come out and assess the
bikes and see what $$ from the budget we would like to
donate, if at all, to this effort, so I know what
we're asking. Shawn, you're excused! :)

As a sidenote, I've already had one student from
Tulane U. here at TAMU contact me b/c he called
Purchasing to buy one of the bikes there, and they
referred him to me. So, we've got some eager ones out
there to get a bike and I'd hate to make this stall
and putter out.

Thanks,
Lisa
