[BVC-CHAT] Anyone checked FM 166 closure status & alternatives?

So we're headed to Caldwell early Sunday morning for my 55-Bday 'ride my age' celebration. Anyone checked out the 166 closure status? Are there Detour signs up? Am I just going to be wandering around the countryside with my partner in the slipstream asking me how much further?

Is that a result of info overload? "*blurp* 'scuse me! I ingested
too much info!" :-)

I just spoke with a TXDot engineer and he said the entire stretch
between 1362 and 2058 will be closed in order to replace three
culverts. However, I don't see any creek beds on Google maps til
about two miles after 1362, so he may have just been giving rough
landmarks.

This also involves a little jog onto 236, which is what actually runs
into 2058.

That's probably the best solution, though another possibility is to go
*left* on 244 and take that straight to 2058. Distance is about the
same, but it means more time on a more heavily traveled road (though,
as I recall, one with a wide shoulder). Either way, we're looking at
an additional five miles or so to get from Tunis to Caldwell.

That will not work as 236 is between 233 and 234. If we can manage to
get to 243 (about a mile past 1362) we could take it directly to 236,
and that would cut about three miles out of the proposed route, but I
have no idea what 243 is like; I don't recall seeing anything paved
leading off of 166 at that point. Similarly for 248, which cuts off
of 166 past Tunis, and which would also only mean about two extra
miles -- not that I mind the extra five of Willie's proposal. I may
ride out and have a look on Thursday.
