I would disagree with the description of "very smooth" especially for a large group. I would predict at least a half a dozen flats if 30 + people are on jack Rabbit. Fun, fast but not without the risk of flats

There is nothing wrong with a little dirt, sand or gravel. It is easy to ride on and is fun, Classic, and a great way to introduce new riders to the joys of dirt road riding and racing. Many of the gravel roads I've ridden are smoother than the chip seal the county-coms think is so wonderful

I would at least hope it would remain as the primary course with a short bypass for riders feeling they lack the basic skills required for a road paved with permeable, non-petroleum based surface that uses a minimum of resources to build.

I would also encourage Mark to look at Jack Rabbit. It is a gravel road that historically been VERY smooth and fast... Just sayin'

Mark - I was looking at the routes and noticed that the northern route goes out Fickey Rd. to Dilly Shaw Tap Rd to FM 244.  Someone may want to check out that segment of Dilly Shaw Tap Rd., as it was dirt/gravel/sand the last time I drove through there.  I am not sure exactly where it turns to unpaved, but it is after Fickey and is more that a mile or so.

Who:  AMCT and BVC riders

Where: Start/Finish A&M Consolidated Middle School on Anderson near George Bush Dr.

When:
Show time:  7:50 am (We'll quickly discuss rules of the road, where we'll stop and for how long and how we'll handle sag vehicle support)
    Roll out:  8:00 sharp

Other info:
Estimated average pace - 17 mph with some city limits signs sprints.

The esteemed Michael Kamps has volunteered to drive the sag vehicle.

Recommend you dress appropriately and bring an extra layer to put on during the lunch stop or if the wx turns bad.  Mark that gear clearly with your name and it can conveniently ride in the sag.  We'll also have a cooler in the sag in case you want to bring your own lunch. If you put gear in the sag, you'll need to pick that gear up at the end of the ride back at the middle school.

The route will depend on prevailing winds on the day of the ride.
